When it comes to religion and politics, it is not shocking to hear the word “islamophobia” tossed around like a salad. The term has become so commonplace in the US that it has pretty much lost all of its meaning. However, when it comes to how many followers of Islam act, it is not shocking to see why some people would come to fear it.
When it comes to the ideas of freedom of religion, many believe that it means that anyone should be able to worship who they please and as they please. This is true. However, this does not mean that people should be forced to deal with religious practices. For this purpose, there should be more of a freedom FROM religion, than a freedom OF religion.
When people are confronted with religious extremists, it is not uncommon for them to be killed in the name of religion. For instance, in almost any of the previous terrorist attacks that have happened, you will find someone who said the term “Allah Akbar” before killing people. Allah Akbar literally means “praise be to Allah” in Arabic.
In fact, Prophet Mohammad himself went against the “peaceful” ideals of Islam. For instance, he spoke of non-believers like so:
“I shall cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads, strike off the very tips of their fingers.” Quran 8:12
“Let not the unbelievers think they will ever get away. They have not the power so to do. Muster against them all the men and cavalry at your command, so that you may strike terror into the enemy of Allah and your enemy…” Quran 8:59-60
If Islam was such a religion of peace, you would not expect to see their profit say such heinous things against others simply for not believing. Millions of people have died in the name of Islam due to the teachings and words of their prophet.
Many people wonder why it is so difficult to talk about these atrocities, and how Islam inherently has these teachings in their very holy book. This is because any criticism of Islam is thought of as an act of racism. Many in the west refuse to see the atrocities and why they are done and instead see skin color.
It is also considered wrong in the mind of the followers of Islam to speak ill of other Muslims. This is definitely true when it comes to Muslim leaders, which is considered blasphemy. However, if a leader or holy figure is acting bad, it should not be a crime to claim that they are acting badly.
Nobody should be afraid to speak out against murder and mass killing. Especially if it is done in the same of a moral figure or supreme being. It should not be considered “blasphemy” to call out immoral acts, and if Islam is as peaceful as it claims to be, it should not have any issue with calling out violent figures.
